Project description

  • POB Connect began at a very early stage with business goals and technical requirements already defined for an IoT-based safety service.
  • The core gap was not technology, but understanding how customers and rescue personnel would perceive, trust, and use the system in high-pressure environments.
  • I led the front-end collaboration with a development team in Ukraine while shaping the customer-facing product direction.
  • My work focused on customer interviews on oil rigs and fishing vessels, journey mapping, interface sketching, and planning usability tests around real rescue workflows.

Approach

  • Worked with domain experts and employees from the oil and fishing industries to understand the mental models already used during emergency rescue operations.
  • Studied how rescue managers relied on traditional boards and indicators to localize personnel on board and coordinate crisis response.
  • Translated those insights into a user interface that prioritized clarity, simplicity, and rapid comprehension under stress, then iterated wireframes with experts and customers.
  • Built an MVP with the offsite front-end team and tested the first prototype using wireless sensors and nodes on the customer vessel North Sea Giant.
